Climate of the Sietch

Our Location is in north-east Spain. Millions of tourists each day are visiting Spain looking for the sun and the beach.

Sun is energy for the vegetation, but the lack of rain prevents the other essential element for life.
It is not one of the drier places in the country but the amount of rain during the year forces us to make a intelligent design on how to make things so that the resources are optimized in order to reach our target.

Water reuse will be one of the main topics on this site, keeping the environment humid will affect positively to the whole ecosystem. Helping the vegetation will hide the hitting sun, and help stabilize the temperature.

Another main topic will increase the quality of the soil, using natural fertilizers, and separating the different stone sizes content for another use.

The botanic repopulation will be as follows:

  • Geographic Analysis: Study which parts are already naturally humid given the current geography
    • Look for shadows.
    • Trace the movement of the sun during the year.

  • Ecosystem Analysis: Observe the current placement of the existing vegetation.
    • Check the shadow that can provide the trees.
    • Take into account when are they going to lose the leafs.
    • Observe the natural location of the species which currently grew without your intervention. This could be a signal to plant similar species nearby.

  • Location: Given this information, choose where is more efficient to place each plant or tree.
    • Sun resisting species could be placed in order to shield the sun for other plants

  • Irrigation: Adapt the irrigation to each specie.

  • Combine plant with different water requirements:
    • For example place between 2 plants that require high irrigation, another that does not require the same level. The water used for those two will indeed keep the soil humid which could be enough for the third to survive.
This last factor makes us think that it will be more optimized to start in concrete points and grow the vegetation from those points, rather than try to populate in a first step the whole territory.
